Mapping PWUD in Kathmandu, Nepal

Experts from Pakistan, Nepal and the Netherlands combined their expertise in May 2016 to conduct a comprehensive mapping exercise in Kathmandu, Nepal. Because the people who use drugs (PWUD) in Nepal typically use drugs behind closed doors, we designed a specific methodology to reach them.

The mapping allows us to better align the harm reduction services to the individual needs of drug users in Kathmandu. Read more

I write this, looking over a buzzing square in Kathmandu. Surrounded by the smell of exhaust gases mixed with fine Nepalese spices, experiencing the heat and humidity like somebody is aiming a hairdryer in your face 24/7, the persistent honking by the taxi drivers and annoying salesmen who try to sell their beloved Purple Haze (the so-called best Hash in the world); just another day in Nepal. A day of Mainlines' Nick Veldwijk in Nepal

In his blog, Mainline’s Nick Veldwijk talks about his day during a recent trip he made to Nepal. The blog shows how diverse Mainlines’ work towards improving the health and lives of People Who Use Drugs is.

"One goal that Mainline has is to strengthen the implementation of harm reduction services at local organisations. We provide support to develop outreach strategies. By joining the outreach workers, we observe and train our partners to improve harm reduction services. It is really amazing to join the outreach teams and be able to compare their work to that in other countries."

Alternative for heroïne in Nepal 
Youth Vision, the local partner of Mainline in Nepal, pioneered with a pilot with opiate substitutes which led to national rollout of projects with these substitutes. in 2014, the National Centre for AIDS and STDs Control brought a positive report on the program Opioid Substitution Therapy of Youth Vision.
